MANCHESTER TWP. Donald J. "Yogi" Baer, 80, died at 9:35 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Phyllis J. (Koons) Baer with whom he celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on December 12, 2013. Born July 24, 1933 in North Codorus Township, son of the late Harry C. and Margaret P. (Heiner) Baer, he was a supervisor with Cole Steel, a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War, and a member of the 12th Ward Democratic Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey J. Baer of York; three daughters, Barbie A. Hintz of Alpharetta, Ga., Sherry L. Baer of York and Pamela J. Olinger of Rutherfordton, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Larry Baer; and three sisters, Josephine Therit, Faye Breeden, and Dolores Myers. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Rauhauser; and three brothers, Dean, Phillip and Buddy Baer. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Workinger Semmel F.H. & Cremation, Inc., York, is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
