YORK A loyal friend, provider, a dedicated husband, loving father and proud Marine, Douglas K. Brown, 67, of York, peacefully fell asleep at his home on Friday, August 8, 2014. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, George C. and Florence (Miller) Brown and his siblings, Andrea (Brown) Holmes and Sylvester Brown. Doug was raised in York, but traveled the world when he enlisted in the Marines as a machine gunner during the Vietnam War. After an Honorable Discharge, Doug married Darnella "Donnie" Brown in 1970. Their 44-year union produced four children, Terry, Berlin, Carmen and Ryan Brown, which led to 13 grandkids and two great-grandchildren. Doug was uncle to several nieces and nephews throughout the Tri-State area. An avid boxing and sports fan, Doug loved to horseplay with his kids and others. After 36 years of service, Doug retired from Precision Components as a machinist in 2005. Doug enjoyed retirement, spending time with his wife, driving, and being Grandpop. He greeted people with a smile and loved conversation. Doug was a charming "Man's man", Vietnam Vet, and Cancer Survivor. Never once complained and never stopped fighting. A life well-lived, we love you Dad. A Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 474 S. Pershing Avenue, York, PA 17401 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Aaron A. Willford, Jr. officiating. A viewing will be prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Wrightsville, with full military rites given by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Boulding Mortuary, Inc. is handling arrangements.
