MECHANICSBURG Earl F. Artz, 82, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013. He was born November 11, 1930, in Spring Glen, son of the late Emory and Minnie (Wiest) Artz. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran, serving on the USS Cabot. He was a former employee of Pennsylvania Railroad and IML Freight, Yocumtown. Earl was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Mechanicsburg; U.S.S. Cabot Association; and the local Teamsters Union. He was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed going to his grandchildren's sporting events. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris A. (Deardorff) Artz; three brothers, Harold, Delbert, and Fred Artz; and two sisters, Arlene and Marian Artz. He is survived by a son, Earl F. Artz, Jr., and his wife, Heather, of Mechanicsburg; a stepdaughter, Barbara Westhafer, and her husband, William, of Mechanicsburg; two grandchildren, Griffin and Tyler Artz; two stepgrandchildren, Nicole Stroup and William Westhafer, Jr.; two step great-grandchildren, Brendan and Emma Stroup; a brother, John Artz; a sister, Jean Harner; and a companion, Janie Leik. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 626 Williams Grove Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Pastor John Ward-Diorio officiating. There will be a viewing on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial with full military honors will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
