HANOVER Earl F. Chronister, Sr., 89, died on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 3:35 p.m. at his home. He was the husband of Bettie M. (Dennis) Chronister who died on November 27, 2012 and to whom he had been married for 68 years. There will be no viewing. Following cremation with Workinger-Semmel F.H. & Crematorium, Inc., York, a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greenmount Cemetery. The Rev. Peter O. Ogilvie, chaplain with Compassionate Care Hospice, will officiate with military honors to be given by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A procession will form at 12:45 p.m. at the main entrance to the cemetery. Mr. Chronister was born January 16, 1924 in York, the son of the late Clair and Mary E. (Deardorff) Chronister. He was a self-employed construction contractor and had also worked for Rea & Derrick, People's and CVS; a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving during WWII; and a life member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Mr. Chronister is survived by a daughter, Peggy A. Lauer and husband John of Gettysburg; a son, Earl F. Chronister, Jr. of Mechanicsburg; two grandchildren, Wendy D. du Bois and husband Philippe of Gettysburg and John T. Lauer II and wife Anna of Lititz; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clair Chronister of York. He was preceded in death by four sisters.
