RED LION Eugene A. Garand, 83, passed peacefully among family on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at his residence. He was a former resident of Pipersville, Pa., and Jacobus. Born September 12, 1929, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late George and Helen Garand. Mr. Garand was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a Cub Scout, Webelos, and Boy Scout Master, and member of the Seven Valleys Baptist Church in Jacobus. His hobbies included woodworking, airplane model building, photography, and camping, and he enjoyed spending time with his family. Eugene is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris; children, Dorene Ridgway and husband, Rick, Steven Garand and wife, Suzann, and Glenn Garand and wife, Gail; and siblings, Malinda Lacy, George Garand, Robert Garand, and Raymond Garand. He was blessed with five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. Eugene was the eldest of nine children, and was preceded in death by Georgia Garand, Nancy Keebler, Thomas Garand, and Doris Wirgenar. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013, at 830 S. Park St., Red Lion 17356.
