YORK George A. Gross, 93, died Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Village at Sprenkle Drive. He was the husband of the late Rena L. (Melhorn) Gross. George was a U.S. Postal Worker, retiring after 28 years. He was a superintendent of the maintenance department, while in prior years he was a clerk with the post office. Following retirement, he did maintenance work at St. Matthew Lutheran Church for 10 years. He was a graduate of William Penn High School Class of 1936 and a graduate of Bliss Electric School in Washington D.C. in 1937. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Europe during WWII. A member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, he was also a life member of Royal Fire Co. Other memberships include the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad Preservation Society, the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad Historical Society, Retired Postal Workers Assoc., York County Heritage Trust, and the Train Collectors Assoc. Born in York, on July 1, 1918, he was the son of the late George S. and Florence E. (Berwager) Gross. He leaves two daughters, Carol A. LoGrasso and her husband, Frank of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., and Barbara V. Grove of York; two grandchildren, Christopher A. Grove and his wife, Felicia of York, and Michelle L. Grove of Lancaster; and two great-grandchildren, Alixandra R. Grove and Jacob A. Grove, both of York. A visitation will be held 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St. in York. The service will follow on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev Kevin T. Shively officiating. Burial will be private in Greenmount Cemetery. The Koller Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 2000 W. Market St. in York is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York, PA 17404; or the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad Preservation Society, 1255 Muddy Creek Forks Road, Airville, PA 17302.
