GARDENDALE, AL Helen Marie Beshore McCahan, 83, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013. Mrs. McCahan's 35-year career as a registered nurse included orthopedics, camp nurse, nursing instructor, Red Cross volunteer, and public health nurse in Alabama from 1972-1985. Mrs. McCahan was a 1947 graduate of Manchester High School, a 1950 graduate of Temple University, and a 1956 graduate of The University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Manchester. She was also a member and past president of Susquehanna Lioness Club (PA). She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels (both in PA and AL) as well as for the Northeastern Food Pantry (PA). Born in Manchester, on January 7, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Gail Beshore. She was the wife of the late Maj. George Russell "Chap" McCahan, Jr., DVM, USA-Ret. and the companion of the late Walter "Bud" Koch. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Kim Batson (Grahm), and a son, George Russell McCahan, III (Meredith), both of North Carolina; a daughter, Dale Brown (Marty) of Birmingham, Ala.; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and two sisters, Charlotte Ahrens of York, and Erma Jean Schaffner of Manchester. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, Gardendale, Ala., at 11 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Old Tabernacle United Methodist Church in New Brockton, Ala. Brother Mark Wood and Mika Marcum will be officiating.
