YORK Henrietta C. Beck, 91, died on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at her residence. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with her nephew, Pastor William Beck, officiating. A visitation will be from 9-to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Holy Savior Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born on December 5, 1921, in York, she was the daughter of the late James Latimer and Mary Elizabeth (Adams) Beck. Ms. Beck worked for the Social Security Administration in York, the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., and for Edward M. Holland, State Senator, 31st District, Arlington, Va. Ms. Beck served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII at Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, Calif. After retiring from Federal service in Washington, D.C., Ms. Beck returned to York to volunteer at Laubach Literacy where she taught reading to children and adults. Further volunteer service included Hearts at Hands Craft Shop and driving for the Meals on Wheels program. Ms. Beck was a founding member of the Gay Gabbers and Golden Girls social groups who have gathered together for more than 70 years. In her working life, she served as President of the service organization, The Pilot Club of York. She was an avid and accomplished knitter, cross-stitcher, and gardener. She brought great laughter to her many nieces and nephews and played a mean game of Pinochle. Send Condolences at BestLifeTributes.com
