RED LION James E. McFerren, Sr. died on Tuesday, July, 2, 2013, at his home. He was born in Gettysburg, on January 27, 1940, and was the son of the late Garnet and Rose (Hardman) McFerren. James was a graduate of Gettysburg High School and served proudly with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed for more than 20 years as a chef with the Roosevelt Tavern in York. James enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He is survived by his son, James E. McFerren, Jr. of York; a daughter, Renee Mithun of New Orleans, La.; a brother, John McFerren of Virginia; sisters, Arlene McFerren and Rose Speelman, both of Gettysburg, and Elizabeth Smeed of Florida; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 2 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, West High St., Gettysburg, with Fr. Mark Wilke officiating.
