GLEN ROCK John A. Abel, 69, died Tuesday, February 17, 2014, at his home. He was the husband of Carolyn B. (Kessler) Abel. A viewing will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014, at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. Cremation is to follow. Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Mr. Abel was born on October 12, 1944, in York, and was a son of the late Charles Calvin and Jennie R. (Amspacher) Abel. He was a maintenance mechanic for all his life, having worked for Anaconda Wire and Cable, Continental Wire and Cable, and lastly Coleman Cable, Inc. York, where he had worked the last 17 years. John was a United States Army Veteran, having served during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the United Birthday Club, and VFW Post 7374, Thomasville. John had a cabin in Clinton County where he loved to bear and deer hunt. He also was a life long Steelers fan and an avid NASCAR fan. He leaves two sons, John A. Abel, Jr. and his wife, Kimberly of Felton, and Brian A. Abel of Red Lion; two daughters, Ashley E. Marsella and her husband, Stephen of Thomasville, and Amber M. VanWagenen and her husband, Michael of Columbia, Md.; seven grandchildren and two on the way; two brothers, Norman and William Abel; and two sisters, Dorothy Cave and Belinda Butcher. He was predeceased in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Charles. Condolences may be shared at geiple.com
