YORK John E. Harold, Jr., 92, died at 6:35 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at Dallastown Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Doris M. (Eberly) Harold. They had celebrated 67 years of marriage. Born May 14, 1922, in York, a son of the late John E. "Pete" and Myrtle (Gladfelter) Harold, he was a 19M40 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. He was a WWII Veteran, serving honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard in the Central Pacific. He retired from York Graphic Services as a proofreader and copy editor and previously worked at The Maple Press Company. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He held memberships in White Rose Lodge No. 706, Free and Accepted Masons; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, York Forest No. 30; and York County Shrine Club. He had been an active member of Golden Nuggets, and he and his late wife had served as President of the Cotillion Club of York. He was also known for his dedicated service to York County. In 1998, he and his wife were honored with the Service to Mankind Award from the Springettsbury Sertoma Club for outstanding volunteer service to the community. Together they had a long history of volunteering for the American Lung Association. Mr. Harold is survived by a son, John E. Harold III, of York; a daughter, Cindi H. Barnes, and her husband Chuck, of Wrightsville; and a granddaughter, Carly E. Kraut of Chevy Chase, Md. A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 at Greenmount Cemetery, with military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
