YORK Jose Alberto Rivera, 28 entered into the presence of God on Saturday, August 3, 2013. He was the husband of Niurka Garcia-Pagan, with whom he shared seven years. Born on October 11, 1984, in Lancaster, he was the son of Carmen L. Valentino of Lancaster and Jose A. Rivera of Dover. Jose graduated from William Penn Sr. High School in the class of 2003. He honorably served his country as a Logistics Specialist in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Afghanistan, earning several medals and awards. He was to graduate in May from HACC, majoring in Logistics. Jose was a V.P. for United Steak Company and a full time student at HACC. He loved to play softball, watch the UFC, and he was an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens - he was fondly called "Ray Lewis" of his company. Jose leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Carmen L. Valentino of Lancaster and Jose A. Rivera of Dover; his wife, Niurka Garcia - Pagan,and their son, Zorian Jose Rivera, both of York; siblings, Liz Rivera of Lancaster, Argenis Rivera of York, and Kianna Rivera of Dover; stepbrother, Carlos Robles of York; grandmother, Sabita Resto of Puerto Rico; godmother, Milagros Rivera of Florida; and a host of other family - aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Otilia Rolon, Octavio Rivera, and Juan Antonio Rivera. He was a very special young man who touched many lives, and will be deeply missed but never forgotten. A viewing will be on Thursday, August 8, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc., 822 E. Market St., York. Funeral services will be on Friday, August 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at By His Mercy Ministries, 595 W. Market St., York, with Pastor Erbin Rivera and Pastor Hector Rivera officiating, preceded by a viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Rose Cemetery with full military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
