DALLASTOWN Joseph Campanella, 88, entered into eternal rest Saturday, March 15, 2014. He was the husband of Mary Jane (Flinchbaugh) for 61 years. A visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main St., Dallastown. The memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Roger H. Mentzer officiating, with reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. John's Blymire's Church Cemetery with full military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., East York, is assisting the family. Mr. Campanella was born August 30, 1925, in York, a son of the late Dominic and Josephine (Vella) Campanella. He was a retired high school principal at Garden Spot High School in New Holland, and had previously served as Music Supervisor with Dallastown Area School District. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. He was a member of the American Legion Dallastown post and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and its choir. He was a graduate of Lebanon Valley College, where he earned his BS in music education and then earned his Master's degree at Penn State University in Education Administration. He was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge #649 in Red Lion, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Zembo Consistory, and 32nd Degree Zembo Shrine. Joseph is survived by his wife; sons, Maurie J. Campanella, Von A. Campanella, and Dr. Cary L. Campanella; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E.
