YORK Joy Ruth (Schiller) Sprenkle, 79, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Manor Care South in York. She was the beloved wife of Frederick A. Sprenkle. They were married in October of 1955 at Kitzigen am Main in Germany. Together they shared over 57 years of marriage. Joy was born in Ridley Park, on July 24, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Otto and Alma Schiller. She graduated from Springfield High School class of 1950, and Penn State University in 1954 with a degree in Physical Education and a minor in English. While at Penn State she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority, she sang on the chapel choir, and participated in intramural synchronized swimming. She was a former member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church on Trinity Road in York, where she was the first female to serve on the church council and also taught Sunday School and sang on the choir. She is currently a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in York. She enjoyed her card club, reading, and gardening, and cherished the time she spent with her family. In addition to her husband, Fred, she is survived by her son, Jonathan Sprenkle and his wife, Kathy of York; her daughter, Julia Sprenkle and her husband, Scott Klimke of Madisonburg, Pa.; and her grandchildren, Jessica, Kevin, and Eric. She is also survived by her brothers, Ronald Schiller and his wife, Joan of Virginia, and Randall Schiller and his wife, Sandra of Maine. She was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Sprenkle in 1995. A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York, with the Rev. Kevin T. Shively officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service next to her daughter at St. Paul Wolf's Cemetery in York.
