Kathryn Amsbaugh Obituary

YORK Kathryn L. "Katie" Amsbaugh, 90, passed away in her sleep on Monday, July 14, 2014, at her residence in Barley Autumn House in East York. Kathryn was born September 27, 1923, in Shrewsbury. She was the daughter of the late L. Russell and Clara (Seitz) Wilhelm. Kathryn was married to the late Carroll Miller Amsbaugh for 17 years, when he died in 1959 at the age of 39. Kathryn then worked at York Tape and Label where she was employed for about 20 years. She had also worked at York E.N.T. until she retired in 1993. Kathryn had two siblings, Kenneth Wilhelm and Gladys Anstine, both deceased. She leaves behind three children, Jeffry K. Amsbaugh and his wife Carol of Palm Coast, Fla., Dr. Glenn A. Amsbaugh and his wife Jane of Annapolis, Md.; Suzanne A. Judy and her husband Henry of Asheville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Scott Amsbaugh and his wife Gina of Wayne, Pa., Karen Scott and her husband Andrew of Severna Park, Md., Dr. Mark Amsbaugh and his wife Dr. Ashley Amsbaugh of Louisville, Ky., and Katie Amsbaugh of Round Rock, Texas. She had four great-grandchildren, Elise, Addison, Parker and Owen. Kathryn lived in West York most of her adult life and attended Zion United Methodist Church with her husband and children when mobility allowed. She was an avid reader of novels, often having difficulty finding books she had not previously read. She loved flowers and gardening, and spending time with her family. Wherever she lived, Katie made a habit of meeting and befriending neighbors. She had a great sense of humor, and was known for her quick wit and friendliness, even with strangers, and especially in groceries stores. A private memorial service is planned for the fall. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York Rescue Mission or Meals on Wheels.
