DOVER Lonnie L. Emig, 67, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, at the Lebanon Veterans Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley J. (Haifley) Emig with whom he celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on October 1, 2013. Mr. Emig was born in Hanover on Jene 30, 1946, son of Martha J. (Doll) Emig of Spring Grove and the late Raymond E. Emig. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1964 to 1970. As a Corporal, he was stationed in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart. Lonnie worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk, from which he retired. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, York. In addition, memberships included the Viking Athletic Assoc., Spring Grove V.F.W., Shiloh American Legion Post 791, Nittany Lion Club, and the Weiglestown Athletic Assoc., where he formerly served as President and Coach. Lonnie was an avid Yankee fan and bowler. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus for several families during the holidays. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeffery S. Emig of Dover and Michael L. Emig of Florida; a brother, Scott A. Emig of York; and a sister, Linda S. Viands of Dover. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey A. Emig. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York. Officiating will be his pastor, Kevin Shively. Final resting place will be in Stoverstown Cemetery with full military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Viewings will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc., 2290 School St., York (Shiloh) and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York, PA 17401.
