YORK Malcolm T. "Max" Murphy, 93, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Country Meadows of York. He was the husband of Jean D. (Hoffman) Murphy. Max and Jean observed their 72nd wedding anniversary on August 16, 2012. Born in West York on July 30, 1919, he was the son of the late Arthur S. and Helen N. (Folkenroth) Murphy. Max retired on March 23, 1979, from the Naval Weapons Engineering Support Activity, of the Department of the Navy, after 30 years of service. He also worked for the Naval Ordinance Plant of York. Max served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and in the Seabees of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a 1937 graduate of West York High School. Max was a member of First Baptist Church of York, having served as treasurer, deacon and Sunday School teacher for a number of years. In addition to his wife of 72 years, he leaves behind two daughters, Patricia J. Gregory and husband J. Samuel of York, Joan L. Keener and husband Terry of Dover; two granddaughters, Gretchen Taughinbaugh, Heather Keener and a great-granddaughter, Madelynn Taughinbaugh. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 3375 Druck Valley Road York. Officiating will be Rev. Timothy Munson and Pastor Michael Sigman. A private burial will be in Suburban Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 3375 Druck Valley Road, York, PA 17406.
