SHREWSBURY Michael R. Hewitt, 68, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at his residence. He was the husband of Diane K. (Kokenes) Hewitt. The couple celebrated 39 years of marriage on June 9, 2013. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church (new church), 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 11 a.m. The Rev. Kevin L. Kaday will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military rites by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born June 16, 1945, in Syracuse, N.Y. Michael was the son of the late Oswald I. and Jeanne (Dossert) Hewitt. Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Freedom. He had been employed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, volunteering, and camping with Boy Scout Troup 90. In addition to his wife, Diane, he is survived by a son, Michael R. Hewitt, Jr. of York; daughter, Ann Marie Collins and her husband, Steven of Lubbock, Texas; four brothers, Dennis Hewitt and his wife, Gigi, Mark Hewitt and his wife, Darlene, John Hewitt, and Dr. Kevin Hewitt and his partner, Mario, all of Staten Island, N.Y. He was preceeded in death by a brother, Patrick Hewitt; and two sisters, Nancy Bernstein and Kathleen Rigney. J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N.
