YORK Raymond Emanuel Barshinger, 90, of York, died at 4:39 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014. He was the husband of Evelyn L. (Hess) Barshinger, to whom he was married for nearly 69 years. A funeral service to honor Raymond's life will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at The Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the start of the services. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery in Jacobus. Mr. Barshinger was born November 17, 1923, in York Township, and was the son of the late Emanuel and Cora (Raver) Barshinger. He attended William Penn High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate. Before and after his military service, he was employed by Nabisco in York and Richmond, Va., retiring in 1982. In addition to his wife, Raymond is survived by his four children, Carol E. Burd and her husband William, Susan K. Shoap and her husband David, James R. Barshinger and his wife Kathy and Brian S. Barshinger; he is also survived by his eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his seven sisters and two brothers.
