WEST YORK Richard G. King, 85, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 9:54 p.m. at Country Meadows of Leader Heights. He was the husband of the late Wanda (Wantland) King. Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at Workinger-Semmel F.H. & Crematorium, Inc., 849 E. Market St., York. This will be followed by a graveside military service at 12 noon at Salem Union Cemetery in Dover. Full military honors will be given by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. He was born September 14, 1927, in York, the son of the late Grant and Pauline (Gise) King. Richard was a production foreman for 45 years with Lehigh Cement Co. (formerly Medusa Cement Co.) and a U.S. Army veteran serving during both WWII and the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of West York VFW Post #8951, the 9th Ward Social Club, South End Democratic Club, Lincolnway Fire Company, the former Owls Social Club, Royal Fire Company No. 6, B.D. Social Club and the York County Firefighters Association; and also a member of Vietnam Vets Post #35, FOE York Aerie #183, 13th Ward Political Club, Shiloh American Legion Post #791, and St. Stephen's UCC. Mr. King is survived by two daughters, Linda K. King of York and Debra A. Pittenger of Red Lion; a son-in-law, James B. Pittenger of Red Lion; and a grandson, Alexander L. Pittenger of Stowe. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York County Veterans Honor Guard, c/o Junior Aughenbaugh, P.O. Box 712, Mount Wolf, PA 17347. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Country Meadows of Leader Heights in the Connections Unit for the exceptional care and consideration that was given to Richard during his stay.
