DOVER Robert E. Deveney, Sr., 88, died Friday, March 15, 2013, at the York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Marion H. (Herr) Deveney. He was a graduate of York High School Class of 1942. He retired from Kopper's Co. Inc. and Altlas Manufacturing Co. both of York where he was employed as a layout man. As a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII, Robert was a combat medic in the 36th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the European Theater Ribbon with four battle stars, a Presidential Unit Citation, a Combat Medical Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ, the 13th Ward Club, the Hawk's Club, the Victory Club, the VFW Post # 8951 of West York and the Shiloh American Legion. Born in York, on May 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Beatrice (Douglass) Deveney. He leaves three sons, Robert E. Deveney, Jr. of Munster, Ind., Daniel A. Deveney and his wife, Judy, of Dover, and Richard C. Deveney and his wife, Sue, of Lynchburg, Va.; a daughter, Linda E. Deveney of Hallsville, Texas; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl Deveney and his wife, Thelma, of York Co.; and nieces and nephews. Viewing will be 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Koller Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 2000 W. Market St. in York. The service will follow on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be the Reverend Doctor W. Arthur Grahe of St. Stephen's U.C.C. with burial in Greenmount Cemetery.
