YORK Ronald G. Messersmith, 64, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy, surrounded by family after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Messersmith was born in York on May 11, 1950, son of Anna (Menges) Messersmith of York and the late Russell Messersmith. Ronald was a 1968 graduate of Spring Grove High School. He was employed as a machinist for Precision Components Corp., York, and retired after many years of service. Ronald was the last living lifetime member of York New Salem Fire Co. where he was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for 48 years. He dedicated his life to his family and helping others. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Melissa Dudlick and her husband, Barton, Jessica Messersmith-Miller and her husband, Keith; a son, Christopher Messersmith and his fiance Tara; two grandchildren, Graham Dudlick and Maxwell Miller; four brothers, Robert Messersmith, Russell Messersmith II, Timothy Messersmith and Michael Messersmith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Messersmith. Memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at St. Jacobs Evangelical Lutheran Church, 99 E. George St., York New Salem. There will be no viewing or visitation. Officiating will be Rev. Lisa A. Hair. Final resting place will be in St. Paul (Zeigler's) Lutheran Church Cemetery, Seven Valleys. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125; or York New Salem Fire Co., 92 W. George St., York New Salem, PA 17408; or the York County Fire Museum, c/o York County Heritage Trust, 250 E. Market St., York, PA 17403. Arrangements were entrusted to the Robert M. Goodling Funeral Service, Seven Valleys, Pa.
