YORK Stephen P. Swartzbaugh, 88, died on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 8:01 p.m. at York Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth M. (Mease) Swartzbaugh with whom he celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on August 7, 2013. There will be no viewing. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 700 E. Market St., York. His interim pastor, the Rev. Richard E. Geib, will officiate with burial to follow in Mount Rose Cemetery. Mr. Swartzbaugh was born March 31, 1925 in York, the son of the late Arlington C. and Mary E. (Pilkay) Swartzbaugh. He was a reporter for 39 years with the York Dispatch covering York City Government, a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII, and a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Supt. of the Junior Dept. and on the church council. Mr. Swartzbaugh is survived by his wife; three daughters, Candace A. Small-Law and husband Timothy of York, Stephanie S. Myers and husband Lynn of York and Suzanne R. Denoncourt and husband Donat of Richmond, Va.; two sons, Stephen L. Swartzbaugh and wife Tammi of Gettysburg and Mark A. Swartzbaugh and wife Beth of York; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jacoby. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Beth Swartzbaugh; and a sister, Katharine A.
