BIRCHWOOD, WI Thomas A. Raby, 64, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Minn. He was born August 9, 1948, in Janesville, Wis., to Fred and Betty (Forrette) Raby. He graduated from high school during which time he played Little League, Youth and Division A Baseball, making City All Star catcher. Thomas joined the USMC in 1968 serving until 1970 during the Vietnam Conflict. After his return, he managed a Bowling Center before completing a five year pipefitting apprenticeship. Thomas worked as a Pipe Fitter for General Motors in Janesville before becoming a Maintenance Supervisor, transferring to GM in Baltimore, Md., in the same position. Later he was promoted to Supervisor of Education and Training, relocating to the Rice Lake, Wis., area. Thomas worked at Rice Lake Weighing Systems for 15 years before retirement. He purchased a lake home on Big Chetac where he enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, and playing softball. His biggest enjoyment was the quality of his life in Northern Wisconsin. Thomas Raby is survived by his wife, Sandra D. Raby of Birchwood, Wis.; two sons and a daughter, Christopher K. Raby, Aaron T. Raby, and Heather M. (Scott) Ditch all of York; two grandchildren, Mykenzie Ditch and Samantha Raby; a step grandson, Seth Ditch; a brother, Richard (Deb) Raby; a sister, Sue (Roger) Price; and two nephews, Kenneth J. Richards and Steven F. Richards. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Betty Raby. Veterans Memorial Services will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, Wis. Military rites will be accorded by the Rice Lake Veterans Center Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to a Veterans organization of your choice.
