YORK Alverta E. (Urey) Sowers entered into rest after a lengthy illness on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 11:33 p.m. at Haven at Springwood at the age of 91. She was the wife of Luther E. Sowers who entered into rest on April 7, 2008. Born in York on January 28, 1921, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Elsie (Tome) Urey. She was a cigar maker at the former Wolf's Cigar Company in Red Lion and then worked at the former Murphy's 5 & 10 in Red Lion, retiring after many years of service. Alverta was a longtime member of Bethany U.M. Church in Red Lion. Alverta is survived by a daughter, Darlene D. Urey of York; three grandchildren, Duane Frey, Dusti Culp and Daune Windhausen; four great-grandchildren, Kelli Kopp, Danielle Lentz, Hattie Altland, and Paige Frey; nieces and nephews; and a friend, Jackie K. Bruggeman of York. A viewing will held on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. The service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. Ron L. Doverspike will officiate. Burial will be in Red Lion Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to Aseracare Hospice, 44 Bowman Road, York, PA 17048.

So sorry to hear of Aunt Alverta's passing, I have so many fond memories of her, and I am so glad I got to spend some time with her, a few years ago, she was a wonderful lady and a Great Aunt.
