FREELAND, MD Callie L. "Dona" Mercer, 89, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at her home. She was the wife of the late Carl Wilson Mercer. There will be a viewing from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, Saturday at Shrewsbury Assembly of God 234 N. Main St., Shrewsbury, with Pastor Robert S. Harris officiating. The service will begin at 12 noon Saturday at the church. Following cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family. She was born November 2, 1923, Russell County, Va., the daughter of the late William C. and Ida (King) Hagy. Callie was a former member of Bentley Springs United Methodist Church and attended Shrewsbury Assembly of God. She was a former Sunday School Teacher and was involved with Women and Youth Ministries. Callie retired from Wehyerhauser Corp./ Williamson Veneer Co., New Freedom in 1985 after 20 years of service. Previously she was employed with Baltimore County Schools in food services during the 1950's and early 1960's. She enjoyed music, gardening, cooking and helping others. She is survived by a son, Vernon H. Mercer of Freeland, Md.; three daughters, Nancy R. Nicoll and her husband, Larry of Severn, Md., Betty L. Diehl of N. Charlestown, S.C., and Jeanie L. Cintron and her husband, Alex of Liberty Township, Ohio; five grandchildren, Melissa (Mays) Dawson and her husband, Jeff, Lori Benson and her husband, Joe, Bill Nicoll, and Phillip and Hillary Cintron; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Joshua, Zoe and Hadley; one brother, John Hagy; and one sister, Nancy Staley.
