Dittenhafer, Jr. CARLISLE Clarence A. Dittenhafer, Jr., 77, died on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence. He was the husband of Jackolyn R. (Hutchins) Dittenhafer. Together they would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on July 14, 2012. Born in York, on January 2, 1935, he was the son of the late Clarence A. Dittenhafer, Sr. and the late Jennie B. (Blum) Dittenhafer. Clarence taught Agriculture at Halifax and Dover High Schools. He went on to the Department of Education as a Vocational Research Associate for nearly 30 years. In his later years he worked as a postal carrier, car transporter, and was an assistant greens keeper at the Carlisle Army Barracks. He was a graduate of Penn State University, where he received his B.S. and Master's Degrees, and he received his PH.D. from Rutgers University. Clarence served in the United States Army. He was a five year lung transplant survivor. He enjoyed golfing watching professional sports, landscaping at home, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed coaching baseball and soccer and being a mentor for his kids and others involved in youth sports. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Jeff Dittenhafer of Pequea, Christopher Dittenhafer of San Francisco, Calif., Eric Dittenhafer of Carlisle, and Rodney Dittenhafer of Boston, Mass.; four grandchildren, Austin, Logan, Ava, and Leah; a niece, Jennie; and two great-nieces, Katie and Lindsay. He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Witmer. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Home 1111 E. Market St., York, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Salisbury officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
