Obituary Condolences

YORK Dean E. Spyker, 83, died March 21, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in York. He had been in poor health for several years. He was the husband of Avis L. (Dosch) Spyker. They were married in Canadochly Evangelical and Reformed Church on March 24, 1951. Dean was born to John H. and Erma L. (Leber) Spyker on February 5, 1931, in Delroy in Lower Windsor Township. He is survived by his wife, Avis; and seven children, Donald E. Spyker and wife Shirley of York, Peggy Spyker-Mummert and husband Lester of Red Lion, Wanda J. Kaltreider and husband Raymond (Butch) of Wrightsville, Susan E. Holtzinger and husband Dennis of York, Sandra K. Mrozinski and husband Stanley of Fairless Hills, Bucks County, Larry D. Spyker and wife Kathryn of York and Barbara L. Shaffer of Wrightsville; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Gloria Grim (Glenn), Elaine Helder (Robert), Dottie Kraut (Richard) and Flo Thomas (Ronald); nieces, nephews, several aunts and many friends, including his Thursday Lunch Bunch. Dean was employed for 22 years by Wm. Christenson Steel Warehouse in York and retired from PC Corp., also in York. He was a farmer for many years. In his younger days, Dean enjoyed snowmobiling and small game hunting. Some of his favorite times were spent at the Long Branch hunting camp with family and friends. He was a charter member of Canadochly Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and delivered Meals On Wheels for many years. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Canadochly Cemetery. The Rev. William H. Baral, Dean's pastor, will officiate at the service. In lieu of flowers, Dean's request is that you send a donation to in his memory. The Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E.
