FREELAND, MD Dennis Russell Carter, 74, died on February 27, 2013, at Gilchrist Center, Towson, Md. He was the husband of Gale (Voight) Carter. Dennis and Gale were married for 44 years. Following cremation, a Funeral Liturgy will be held Monday, March 4, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, (Historic Church) 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom. The Rev. Carl Tancredi will officiate. He was born February 10, 1939, in Baltimore, Md., a son of the late Thomas Seth and Elizabeth Agnes (Russell) Carter. He was a life long mechanic retiring from Baltimore City Fire Dept. as a Battalion Chief of the Maintenance & Supply Dept. Dennis was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church for 42 years. He was a softball umpire for 50 years, a soccer referee and he also coached baseball, softball and soccer. In addition to his wife, Gale, is survived by a son, Dennis Russell Carter, II, of Freeland, Md.; two daughters, Denice Louise Carter of New Cumberland and Dana Lee Ann Carter of Reading; a grandson, Dennis "Russell" Carter, III of Freeland, Md.; and a sister, Tammie Stevenson of Dagsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimers's Assoc. Greater Maryland Chapter, 1850 York Road, Suite D Timonium, MD 21093-5142. The J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc. 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, is assisting the family.
