MT. WOLF Donald "Don" E. Flaharty, Sr., 74, entered into rest after a lengthy illness at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Marie Y. (Oberlander) Flaharty, who entered into rest on August 28, 2005. He was born in Brogueville, on June 7, 1938, and was the son of the late Dale S. and Ethel E. (Miller) Flaharty. Mr. Flaharty worked as a groundskeeper of the golf course at the Out Door Country Club for more than 30 years, retiring in 2011. He also worked at the Red Lion County Club. Surviving are his fiancee', Jackie Hughes of Dover; two sons, Donald E. Flaharty, Jr. of York and Rodney L. Smith of Mt. Wolf; three daughters, Cheryl L. Flaharty of Mt. Wolf, with whom he resided, Tammy S. Flaharty of Catonsville, Md., and Nicole M. Flaharty of Mt. Wolf and companion, Hobert L. Emery; four grandchildren, Jason L. Sangrey of Wrightsville, Keiana E. Kraft of Mt. Wolf, Ambre L.M. Benedict of Mt. Wolf, and Ryker A. Emery of Mt. Wolf; two brothers, Dick Flaharty (Roxanne) of Dover and Rick Flaharty (Geri Tome) of Davenport, Fla.; one sister, Brenda Stahle (Sheldon) of York; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara M. Smith, on September 18, 1997; and a brother, Gary L. Flaharty in 1984 Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, September 24, at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. The service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Dr. Bayse H. "Bud" Reedy, pastor of Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene in York, officiating. Burial will be at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to York Health Foundation, Cancer Patient Help Fund, 912 S. George St., York, PA 17403. Don was a great Dad and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed NASCAR, wrestling, hunting, and listening to country music. On Monday, September 17, surrounded by his loving family and friends, Don chose to be baptized into the Fellowship of Jesus Christ.
