GETTYSBURG Doris J. Guise, 78, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Gettysburg Hospital. She was born August 24, 1934 in York, the daughter of the late Harry E. and Mary Barnhart Eberly. Doris is survived by her husband of 49 years, Howard G. Guise. Mrs. Guise was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg, where she served as a Sunday school Teacher and a Worship Assistant. Before moving to Gettysburg Doris was a member and Sunday school Teacher at Grace Lutheran Church in York. Doris attended a one-room school house before graduating from Dover High School in 1952. Following high school she was employed at Fox's Bakery in York. After moving to the Gettysburg area she worked as a secretary at Kinney Shoe Company in Fairfield, and later as a secretary for the Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance Agency of Richard Unger and Jim Dunlop. Most recently she spent years as a waitress at the American Legion, Post 202 in Gettysburg. Doris enjoyed traveling particularly her annual trip to the Outer Banks. She also loved time with her family especially her grandchildren. Doris was a former President, Vice-President and Treasurer of the Gettysburg ABWA and was their "Woman of the Year" in 2000 and 2004. She was a former President, Vice-President and Treasurer of the American Legion, Post 202 Auxiliary in Gettysburg. Mrs. Guise was also a former member of PACT Crime Stoppers. In addition to her husband, Doris is survived by three children, Michael L. Guise and his wife Kimberly of Gettysburg, Mark L. Guise and his wife Kim of Gettysburg, and Michele L. Guise Jones and her husband William Jones, Jr. of Biglerville; four granddaughters, Claudia, Lauren, and Alana Guise, and Hannah Gardner; a brother, Harry E. Eberly and his wife Kay of Tempe, Ariz.; a sister, June Myers of York; and several nieces and nephews. Doris was predeceased by a sister, Jacqueline Eberly. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 13th at 10 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, with Rev. Michael Allwein and Rev. Jeanette Leisk officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. There will be a viewing at Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysburg, Monday, November 12th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
