Edna S. Bates, 88, entered into to rest on Tuesday January 3, 2017 at York Hospital. Born on February 18, 1928 in Elkton VA, she was the daughter of the late Journey and Amy (Breeden) Lam. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Elmer W. Bates. She was a woman of faith who trusted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was the heart of her family. She was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. Edna is survived by her children, Jerry Bates (Bonnie) of Lancaster, Shirley Peeling (John) of York, Christine Rupp(Regis) of Dover,Sue Moody (Kevin) of Dover, Betty Darr (Tim) of York, Frances Gladfelter (Mark) of East Berlin, Carolyn Stauffer (Tim) of Abbottstown; grandchildren, Torry Beaven, Lorry Tetreault, Daniel Rupp, Matthew Rupp, Jessica Stoup, Jeremy Moody, Bryant Moody, David Darr, Adam Darr, Michelle Gladfelter, Jennifer Gladfelter and Ryan Gladfelter; great-grandchildren, Abigail Beaven, Marshall Beaven, Amelia Beaven, Caleb Tetreault, Noah Tetreault, Sarah Tetreault, Eliza Tetreault. Edna's siblings are Bertie Taylor and Lloyd Lam of Elton, VA. She was preceded in death by siblings Arlene McMillan, Orba Lam, Wilmer Lam, Gilmer Lam and Fadely Lam. She retired from the Dover Area School District in 1993. A visitation will be 11 am to 12 noon Saturday January 7, 2017 at the John W. Keffer Funeral Home and Crematory. Inc., 2114 W. Market St., York, A funeral service will follow at 12 noon with the Rev.Richard Hall officiating. Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made for the care and adoption of animals to the York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA . Edna will be deeply missed and her legacy will be forever treasured.
