Eleanor J. Elsner Obituary
HANOVER Eleanor Jane Elsner, 84, entered into God's eternal care Monday, August 5, 2013, at her residence. Born June 23, 1929, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Ralph E. and Eleanor J. (Over) Scholl. She was the loving wife of the late Frank Elsner, Jr. Eleanor was a 1947 graduate of Eichelberger High School and was a member of the current Alumni Association of Hanover High School. Upon graduation, she attended Shippensburg University. Mrs. Elsner was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Hanover. Eleanor was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, #763 of Hanover, Eichelberger Performing Arts Center, a life member of the Friends of the Guthrie Memorial Library of Hanover, a former board member of the Hanover Hospital Women's Auxiliary, former President and board member of the VNA Hospice of Hanover & Spring Grove, the Hanover Area Historical Society, the York Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Digge's Choice Chapter of Daughters of American Colonists (DAC), for which she served as the chapter librarian from 2009-present. Her memberships also include the Col. Richard McCalister Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and a life member of the U.S.S. LST Ship Memorial, Inc. Eleanor's late husband owned a model of this particular ship that was donated to this organization and is currently in a museum in Evansville, Ind. Mrs. Elsner also held several offices and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Vivian M. Cullison and her husband, Daniel, and Victoria Y. Eckard and her husband, Larry, all of Hanover, and Debra J. Kinard and her husband, Timothy of Gettysburg; her son, F. Rusty Elsner, III and his wife, Grace of Hanover; three grandchildren, Nicole Bucher, Nathan Kinard, and Natalie Gibson; two stepgrandchildren, Chad and Hope Nicole Eckard; three great-grandchildren, Camden, Callie, and Jaxon; and one step great-grandchild, Ethan. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Rose A. Ziegler and Patricia A. Dornon. Funeral services will be held at 10:45 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 129 Charles St., Hanover, with her pastor, the Rev. Kirk A. Griffin, officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, as well as from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Serving as casketbearers will be family members, Scott Ziegler, Kent Ziegler, Kevin Gibson, Andrew Bucher, Timothy Kinard, Larry Eckard, Nathan Kinard, and Daniel Cullison. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Eleanor's memory to the VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove, 440 N.
