DOVER On Friday, December 6, 2013, Emma Marie (Landis) Byerts, 92, was ushered into the presence of our Lord. Born in York, on February 21, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John and Pauline (Zeltwanger) Landis. Emma was the oldest of 10 children. She was preceded in death by siblings, Vernon Landis, Kenneth Landis, Leonard Landis, and three stillborn children; and is survived by her siblings, Kathryn Suter of Virginia, Ronald Landis of Maine, and Pauline Messerly of Dover. On June 2, 1939, she married James Leroy Byerts, Sr., the love of her life. James preceded her in death in 1976. Emma was the proud mother of three children, James Jr. who passed away in 1974, Eileen Harlacher and husband, Claude of Dover, and Eleanor Runkle of Dover. She leaves behind a legacy in the lives of her nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Emma received Christ as her personal Savior on February 27, 1938. She was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church since 1981, serving as a Sunday School teacher and a Deaconess. She also sang in the choir and participated in door to door witnessing. Emma worked hard all of her life, retiring for the second time from Hakes Grocery in 2004. She was admired by many for her unfailing faith in her Lord, her strong work ethic, her capacity to love, and her generosity. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, 2740 Roosevelt Ave., York, PA 17408. A service will begin at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Greg Wahlberg officiating. Burial will follow in Rohlers Mountain View Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in her name to Calvary Baptist Church. The John W.
