Florine S. Breeland Obituary
YORK Ms. Florine S. Breeland, 78, was released from her earthly home on February 26, 2013, with her family by her side. She married O'Dell in 1965. Florine was born on January 21, 1935, in York County, to the late Percy C. and Daisy B. (Simpson) Banks. She attended the York City Schools as a child and teenager. She worked at Coyne Industrial Laundry for a number of years, before going to YORK Borg Warner. She retired from York Borg Warner (York International now Johnson Controls Inc.) after 28 years of service. She was a member of the 25 year Continuous Service Club. Some of her special interests but not limited to were, playing basketball & softball, writing poetry, listening to music, and cooking for her family. She gave her life to the Lord and began her Christian journey as a member of Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. J. Manning. She later joined Emmanuel COGIC under Pastor Walter W. Wise. Going to church and serving the Lord was priority and it showed as she was an avid prayer warrior. As God spoke she became a member of the Solid Rock Evangelistic COGIC, serving her church and working with her son/pastor (Ronald L. Banks) faithfully. Florine leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, James V. Banks (Shelva Murray) and Ronald L. Banks (Adrienne Hudson); three daughters, Darlene A. Diggs (Lucius Dowling), Freda A. Brown (Eugene R. Brown Jr.) all of York, Carla R. Penn-Hopson (Tony Hopson Sr.) of Portland Ore., and a special daughter Helen (Fisher) Owhonda; three brothers, Edward V. Banks, Thomas C. Banks and James W. Banks; one sister, Anna J. Carter, all of York; 16 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four brothers, Percy N., Macklin G., Rodney D., and Robert C. (Banks); three sisters, Eva C. Hopkins, Deloris Hicks, and Rosie V. Mitchell, and a granddaughter, Micheala D. Breeland. A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday at Emmanuel COGIC, 825 E. Princess St., York, PA 17403 from 9 to 11 a.m. Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jerry Banks of Frederick, MD, officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. The repass will be at Unity COGIC, 121 Ridge Ave., York, PA 17403.
