YORK Gene A. Hoover, 86, passed away at 12:47 a.m, Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Geraldine M. (Stephens) Hoover who passed away on May 23, 2008. Gene was born January 10, 1926, in Mount Wolf, the son of the late Christian and Mammie (Witmer) Hoover. He attended Manchester High School in Manchester. He was a contract negotiator and supervisor at the Navy Ships Parts Contract Center for 43 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of the YMCA in York for over 50 years and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Gene is survived by his four sons, James Hoover and his wife, Nancy, Joel Hoover of York, Dave Hoover and his wife, Lisa of York, and Mike Hoover of Red Lion; his seven daughters, Linda Allison of York, Susan Boll and her husband, William of York, Joan Boyer and her husband, Steve of York, Jeri Kell of York, Debra Bailey and her husband, Aaron of Spring Grove, Beth Dietz and her husband, Mike of York, and Sharon Dwire and her husband, Randy of Sommerset; 23 grandchildren, Michael, James, Eric, Jeanie, Becky, Heather, Jon, Dana, Brandon, Michael, Jonathan, Christopher, Matthew, Danille, Taylor, Elise, Brittany, Kody, Tanner, Annie, Curtis, Tierney, and Cheyenne; 13 great-grandchildren, James, III, Jayme, Hannah, Jayden, Smantha, Cynthia, Alasania, Riley, James "BB", Kalob, Ryan, Trey, Kaydence; one great-great-grandson, Curtis; his two brothers, Christian Hoover, Jr. of Weiglestown, Raymond Hoover of York; and his four sisters, Flossie Goodling of Dover, Betty Wentz of York Haven, Elva Gibbs of Dover and Peggy Hoover of York. Gene was preceded in death by his two brothers, Russel Hoover and Kenneth Hoover. His viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 S. Main St., Mount Wolf. The service will begin at 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at Manchester Union Cemetery in Manchester. Officiating at his service will be The Reverend Bill Schutt. Military Honors will be preformed by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
