YORK George S. Steckler, 77, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2012, at The Brethren Home Community in Cross Keys. He was the husband of R. Jeanne (League) Steckler, who died March 12, 2009. There will be a viewing Monday, December 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Workinger-Semmel F.H. & Crematorium, Inc., 849 E. Market St., York. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Eddie D.D. Miller, a retired Methodist pastor, officiating. Burial will follow the service in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Steckler was born November 7, 1935, in York. He was a son of the late Edward and Hannah (Sanders) Steckler. Mr. Steckler was a civilian clerk with the army civil service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the Army Reserve as a Master Sergeant. He worked part-time and volunteered for many years with the York Recreation Commission and was instrumental with Little House Girls Club, Christmas Magic, and the Halloween Parade. Mr. Steckler was also a graduate of York Catholic High School. Survivors include two daughters, Twila J. Steckler of Hawaii, and Tamara J. Leas and husband, Bennett of East Berlin; two sons, Darrell L. Steckler and wife, Sue (Young), and Benjamin T. Steckler, all of York; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Zachary, Kelly, Daryl, Melissa, Ashlee, and Jamie; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Susan Burnside of York. He was preceeded in death by two brothers, Edward P. and James R. Steckler. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O.
