YORK Gerson H. Singer, 74, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015. Gerson was born on April 4, 1940, in Harrisburg, to the late Herman and Florence (Miller) Singer. He was a 1958 graduate of John Harris High School. Gerson proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1962. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Pyro AE-24. After his service Gerson worked in his parents' clothing store in Steelton before going to work for the Commonwealth of PA. He retired from the Commonwealth with over 25 years of service. Gerson was a member of the York Chapter of the Elks Club, The American Legion Post 1001 (Harrisburg) and Post 791 (York), and VFW Post 556 (York). He was a long standing member of the Blue Mountain Lions Club and former President. Gerson also volunteered for 17 years with the Susquehanna Twp Rescue Fire Company 37. Gerson was an avid Notre Dame fan. He loved dogs. Gerson was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Frank. Gerson is survived by his wife, Gloria Singer; his two sons, Robert Singer (Shari) and Steven Singer (Tammy); his daughter, Kara Fillman (Greg); his four grandchildren, Breanne, Sarah, Samantha, and Zachary; and his great-granddaughter, Syriah. Funeral services for Gerson will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at the Beth El Cemetery Chapel in Harrisburg at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at the Beth El Cemetery. Rabbi Eric Cytryn will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerson's name to Zack Singer's American Cancer Society Relay For Life Team at (440) 519-1976.
