YORK Harry W. "Bill" Blasser, Jr., 88, of Springettsbury Township, died Thursday, January 23, 2014, at his residence. He was the husband of Doris J. (Emig) Blasser. Mr. and Mrs. Blasser observed their 68th wedding anniversary on December 8, 2013. Bill was born in York, on December 21, 1925, a son of the late Harry W. and Effie Bernett (Horn) Blasser. He retired as the general manager of Cole Steel in 1983. Following his retirement with Cole Steel he worked at Weis Markets until 1998. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he served in the Pacific and European Theatres. His memberships include Covenant Moravian Church and Kreutz Creek Valley VFW Post 7045. Bill enjoyed playing cards on the computer, going shopping, and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Jed Blasser and wife, Cindy of York; a daughter, Kriste Myers and husband, Keith of Dallastown; four grandchildren, Shawn Blasser, Kelly Scheirer, Becky Sabold, and Amy Fisher; eight great-grandchildren, Layla, Lexi, Lilly, Jake, Trent, Marleigh, Haley, and Alyssa; a brother, Ronald Blasser of Carlisle; and a sister, Virginia Wonders of York. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Nevin Blasser. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, with his pastor, Pastor Jeff Coppage, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery with graveside military rites provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
