YORK Helen K. Mitchell, 91, formerly of Paxtang, died on March 19, 2013, at the home of her granddaughter, Yvette Weber and her family Paul, Abigail, and Mitchell. She was the wife of the late Earle M. Mitchell. Born in Harrisburg, on August 4, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Emma (Selcher) Nickolas. As a teen Helen skated at the Hershey Arena and eventually met her husband, Earle, at the arena. Earle's father, Herb Mitchell, was the coach of the Hershey Bears. This sparked a lifelong devotion to the Hershey Bears and ice hockey. At age 90, Helen was still attending Bears games. Helen was a professional figure skater with the Ice Follies from 1938 1941. Helen then returned home to get married and raise her family. She spent many years loving and caring for her parents, her husband, her four boys, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Grandma, as most people called her, was truly the center of the Mitchell family and her loving influence is widespread to not only the family but to friends as well. She is survived by her four sons, Stephen E. Mitchell and his wife Rosina of York; Gareth H. Mitchell and his wife Barbara of Carlisle; David K Mitchell and his wife Elizabeth of West Chester; Daniel H. Mitchell and his wife Anna Peirce of West Chester; a niece, Lynda DeChevreiux of York; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Rolling Green Cemetery, 1811 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
