W. MANCHESTER TWP. Herbert Chronister Boyer, 85, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the York Hospital. He was the husband of his high school sweetheart, Sarah Ann (King) Boyer, whom he married on February 8, 1947. Herbert was an office manager with John L. Thomas for 34 years and he retired from Union Broach in Emigsville in 1993. Born in West York, on November 4, 1926, he was the son of the late Harry O. and Mable (Schweigart) Boyer. Herbert was a graduate of West York High School Class of 1945. He played football and basketball, and was a member of the first basketball team to win a York County League Championship in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, the Viking Athletic Association, and he was a founding member of the Bear Track Hunting Club. Past memberships include being a cub scout leader, a West York Boys Club coach, a softball player and coach, and a bowler. In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Cheryl Stine and her husband, Rick of York; a son, Guy Boyer and his wife, Jeannine of Akron, Pa.; grandchildren, Abby and George Book of Chambersburg, Jay and Erin Stine of Catonsville, Md., Trevor Boyer of Akron, and Julia Boyer of Baltimore, Md.; great-grandchildren, Anna, Evan, and Nathan Book, and Austin Stine; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred, Stuart "Red", Robert, Walter, and David Boyer. A memorial service to celebrate Herbert's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Zion United Methodist Church, 1030 Carlisle Ave. in York, with the Rev. Dr. Bradley A.
