MONAGHAN TWP. James L. Witmer, 70, of York County, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2013, surrounded by his family at his home. Jim was the widower of Virginia C. (Miller) Witmer. He was born April 6, 1943, in Carlisle, the son of the late Robert D. and Mary E. (Gusler) Witmer. He was a retired forklift operator with 30 years of service with Caterpillar, York, was a member of the U.A.W Local #786, and was a lifelong farmer. He was a graduate of Northern High School, Class of 1961. Jim served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, with two tours in Vietnam with the Recon Unit, and during the Bay of Pigs invasion. Jim attended Christian Life Assembly, Camp Hill, and was a member of the Lower Allen V.F.W., Post #7530; Mechanicsburg American Legion, Post #109; member and former Cattlemen of the Year recipient in 2007 from South Central Cattlemans Assoc.; Williams Grove Steam Engine Assoc.; and the PA Farm Bureau. Jim is survived by two daughters, Janell L. Reagan (Jim) of Shiremanstown, and Janett A. Bailey (Kevin) of Dillsburg; six brothers, Robert (Lois) of Mechanicsburg, Daniel (Joanne) of Dillsburg, Ronald (Sonia) of Maryland, Michael (Kathy) of Landisburg, Roger of Mechanicsburg, and William (Julia) of Mechanicsburg; and two sisters, Wendy Crouse (Sam) of Mechanicsburg and Sue Ann Gardner (Jon) of Texas. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Maggie Reagan, Ryan, and Mitchel Bailey. Services will be held Friday, June 21, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg. Burial will follow in the Andersontown Cemetery. A viewing will be held Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
