DOVER James W. Crawford, 88, entered into rest at 2:53 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Dorothy F. (Burger) Crawford. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage on November 1, 2012. Born September 8, 1924, in Charlottesville, Va., he was a son of the late James S. and Sadie Crawford. James was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He retired following 43 years of service for Stone Container in York, formerly Schmidt & Ault and St. Regis Paper Company, where he was a foreman. James was a member of Quickel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zions View; Zereditha Lodge #451, F&AM in York; and West Manchester Township Farmer's & Sportsmen Association. He enjoyed traveling, swimming, walking, attending family events and visiting his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, James is survived by five sons, Larry Crawford and wife, Connie of North Newton, KS, Rodney Crawford and wife, Linda of York, Danny Crawford and wife, Laurie of Crofton, MD, Randy Crawford and wife, Cindy of Shippensburg, and the Rev. Stacy Crawford and wife, Lisa of Greencastle; 19 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a brother, Albert Crawford of Blacksburg, VA. He was preceded in death by a grandson and two sisters. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend James' funeral at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Quickel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 60 Canal Rd. Ext., York. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Emig Funeral Home, 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Barbara A. Barry, and his son, the Rev. Stacy Crawford. Memorial contributions may be made to a church or .
