James Keeny Obituary

MANCHESTER James W. Keeny, 86, died Tuesday evening, January 17, 2012, at York Hospital. He was the husband of June (Hoover) Keeny, whom he missed every day since her death on May 25, 2011, after 64 years of marriage. Born January 22, 1925, in Loganville, a son of the late Daniel E. and Meda (Grove) Keeny, he was a retired bricklayer, working for the Bricklayer's Union, and most recently for T.Z. Masonry. He was a member of Starview United Church of Christ, and enjoyed working on his lawn and with his hands. The most important aspect of Mr. Keeny's life, however, was being a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend, faithfully having breakfast with his family every Tuesday morning. Mr. Keeny is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. Good of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Beverly A. Wagaman and her husband, Philip of Manchester; two sons, Daniel E. Keeny and his wife, Linda of Dover, and David B. Keeny of Etters; five grandchildren, Steven Shultz, Krista Daly and her husband, Tom (who are expecting Mr. Keeny's third great-grandson in March), Chad Good, Nickolas Keeny and his wife, Sara, and Darren Keeny; two great-grandchildren, Christian Shultz and Wyatt James Keeny; a sister, Charlotte Laucks of Red Lion; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; his special caregivers, Dawn Frye and niece, Donalene Wise; and Blackie the cat. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Daniel, Kenneth, Richard, and William Keeny; and six sisters, Bernice Keeny, Melba Dehoff, Mildred Deaton, Erdine Hilbert, Nedra Innerst, and Gladys "Honey" Paige. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday at Starview United Church of Christ, 4832 N. Sherman St., Ext'd, Mount Wolf, with his pastor, The Rev. Laura C. Bair, officiating. Visitation will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. Private burial will be in Suburban Memorial Gardens. William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 60 S. Main St., Manchester, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406. KuhnerAssociates.com
