Janet L. Shadle

HONESDALE Mrs. Janet Louise Shadle, 73, a resident of Bethany Village near Honesdale, died December 18, 2010, at Bethany Village. Born October 30, 1937, the Mercersburg native was the daughter of the late Harry L. and F. Marie Strike. She was the widow of Eugene R. Shadle, who died in 2003. They were married for 47 years. She was a 1956 graduate of Chambersburg Area High School and had studied nursing. Prior to moving to the Honesdale area, Mrs. Shadle most recently resided in York. She had also lived in Chambersburg, Danville, Fayetteville, and Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; Hagerstown, Maryland, and Coshocton and the Cleveland area of Ohio. She was a former employee of Dr. Sonya Korda in York and had been a Welcome Wagon Hostess in Lewisburg and Chambersburg. Mrs. Shadle was of the Presbyterian faith and had served as a deacon. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Susan Shadle Erb and Father Edward K. Erb of Honesdale; two grandsons, Philip Erb and his wife Theresa Black of Parkville, Md., and Andrew Erb and his wife Cara Erb of Hamilton, N.J.; a brother, Donald Strike and his wife Judy Strike of Chambersburg; a great-grandson, Adam Erb of Parkville, Md.; and eight nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Father Edward K. Erb, Mrs. Shadle's son-in-law, will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens near Chambersburg.The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Janet L. Shadle Handicapped Accessibility Improvement Fund at Grace Episcopal Church, 827 Church St., Honesdale, PA 18431. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Bethany Village.
