YORK JC "John" Forbes, 85, died Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at Manor Care North. He was the husband of the late Helen (Christian) Forbes. Mr. Forbes began working as a logger. He was later employed with Bowen McLaughlin until 1964. In more recent years, he and his wife, Helen, owned and operated Forbes Service Center until retirement. He was a member of Grace Fellowship. John was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Born in Kingsport, Tenn., on February 13, 1927, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Alice (Murray) Forbes. He leaves a son, J. David Forbes and his wife, Marge; a daughter, Mary A. Brose and her husband, Kevin; two grandchildren, Matthew K. Brose and Katelyn Marie Forbes; one great-granddaughter, Dixie Lee Hughes; one brother, Franklin D. Forbes of Dover; three sisters, Irene Bare of New Freedom, and Betty J. DeVeny and Rosie McDaniel both of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul O. Forbes, KB Forbes, Roscoe Forbes, and Bobby Forbes. Viewing will be 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Koller Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 2000 W. Market St. in York. The service will follow at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Rich Culp. Burial will be in St. Jacob's Union Cemetery in York New Salem.
