DOVER John B. Gross, 86, died at his residence, Wednesday, October 3, 2012. He was the husband of the late June M. (List) Gross and the son of the late George and Martha (Richcreek) Gross. John was a 1943 graduate of York High School. He enlisted in the Navy, along with his twin brother George, before graduating and served during WWII on the Heavy Destroyer U.S.S. Masey in the Pacific campaign. He owned and operated John B. Gross Electrical Contracting and thanks to his guidance and dedicated skilled employees, was one of the major contractors in the York Area during the 50's and 60's. John retired from the contracting business in 1970, when he and June bought and operated the Denton Mill Motel in Potter County. John was an avid hunter and fly fisherman and enjoyed having associates to his farm during the 60's for great pheasant hunting. John was a 60 year member of the Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was also a member of F&AM White Rose Lodge #706, York, Shiloh Legion Post #791, and West York VFW Post #8951. He is survived by a daughter, Victoria M. Reiber and husband, J. Gregory Reiber of Dover; two sons, Jay F. Gross and wife, Linda of Charlotte, N.C., and Craig L. Gross and wife, Beverly of Dover. John was blessed with nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a third son, Johnny B. Gross; his brother, George; and a sister, Laura V. Morton. Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend John's memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2012, with a visitation to begin at 10 a.m. at Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2201 Church Rd., York. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Kathy Swords. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2201, Church Rd., York, PA 17408.
