YORK John L. Magor, 78, of Spring Garden Township, died at 12:47 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Martha (Baum) Magor. Born March 16, 1935, in York, a son of the late Donald M. and Sarah (McCleary) Magor, he attended York City Schools as a child, during which he was active in the Junior Symphony as well as the Order of DeMolay. He attended high school at Valley Forge Military Academy, graduating in 1953, where a highlight of being a member of its cadet band was marching in President Eisenhower's inaugural parade. He was also a 1959 graduate of Gettysburg College, where he was a charter member of its Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity. He worked as Assistant Treasurer/Assistant Secretary for York Shipley, and later as Vice President of Finance for Brocker Rebar Company, Inc., from where he retired in 1997. He was a former member and past president of the York Chapter of the National Association of Accountants, and was designated as an Emeritus Life member of the Institute of Management Accountants. A life long car enthusiast, he was a member of the Keystone Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club. He had also been a member of Bon Air Country Club for 23 years, where he enjoyed golfing. Cooking was a favorite creative outlet, sharing good food and drink, and perhaps a good cigar with family and friends always brought him great happiness. Mr. Magor loved and was very proud of his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Steven M. Magor of York; a daughter, Beth A. Zook of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Maria, Stephanie, and Johnathan; mother-in-law, Dorothy Baum, of York; and his Toy Manchester Terrier, Tigger. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter. A memorial gathering and remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 S. George St., York. Private burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406; or to .
