STEWARTSTOWN John Summerfield Mangan, 74, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Manor Care, Dallastown. He was the husband of A. Jean (Wright) Mangan. The couple celebrated 37 years of marriage in March 2012. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc. 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown. Prayer Service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary with full military rites by York County Veterans Honor Guard following the service. Burial in Garrison Forest Veteran Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117 is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. December 14, 2012. Deacon Michael Bahn will be the officiant. Born November 24, 1938, in Baltimore, Md., John was the son of the late Patrick and Kathleen Francis (Watson) Mangan. John served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1962. He retired May 25, 1987, from the Social Security Administration, Woodlawn, Md., after 25 years of service. He enjoyed his time with family and playing cards. John was a former member of the Birthday Club in New Freedom. In addition to his wife, John is survived by one son, Scott Mangan of Pasadena, Calif.; one daughter, Christina Mangan Barshinger and her husband, Ken of Red Lion; four grandchildren, Charles, Catherine, Carolyn, and Ella Barshinger; and many nieces and nephews. John was the last of 13 children in the Mangan family including four sisters and eight brothers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 50 E. King St., York, PA 17401.
