SPRING GROVE Leah L. (Lucabaugh) Stambaugh, 95, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at the home of her son, Carlton Stambaugh. She was the beloved wife of Sterling Stambaugh, who passed away in October of 1993. Leah was born on April 30, 1917, in Hanover, and was the daughter of the late John and Harriet Lucabaugh. She graduated from Eichelberger High School and Thomas Jefferson School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She worked as a nurse for many years in the office of Dr. Wilbur Wire in Spring Grove. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren and faithfully participated for 25 years in the Pleasant Hill Sewing Circle. She served as a Sunday School teacher and was an encouragement to many in their Christian walk. Mrs. Stambaugh is survived by her daughter, Connie Sweitzer and husband, Wendell of Glen Rock; her son, Joseph Stambaugh and wife, Naomi of Winchester, Va.; and her son, Carlton Stambaugh and wife, Arlene of Hanover. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Merlin Stambaugh, Merris Stambaugh and wife, Stephanie, Myron Stambaugh, Sharon Sweitzer, Jason Sweitzer and wife, Joann, Gwenyth Eyler and husband, Jeffrey, Rachel Miller and husband, Troy, and Derek Stambaugh and wife, Michelle; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Stuart Lucabaugh, and her sisters, Florence Lehigh and Beulah Lucabaugh. A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, 9002 Orchard Road, Spring Grove, with Elders Kenneth Nell and Fred Miller officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service next to her husband at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Spring Grove. Viewings will be held on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home and Cremation Service PC, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, and on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
